Armed conflict has continued in early March 2016 in various parts of Shan State, with more than 1,300 people newly displaced in the past week following clashes North of Kutkai.

Humanitarian organisations estimate more than 600 displaced people at Nam Hpet Kar village, with more people arriving daily. A further 700 people fled to Mong Yu Lay village, where they are staying with host families and monasteries who are providing initial assistance.

Clashes last month had already displaced over 4,200 people in Kyaukme Township, of whom more than 3,000 were able to return home.
An additional 1,200 people were displaced to Mong Wee, Namhkan Township where 1,100 people remain displaced.

The pattern of armed clashes, population displacements, returns, and re-displacements continues to characterize conflict-affected communities in Shan State in 2016 and the situation remains fluid.

The UN and partners continue to liaise closely with relevant authorities and humanitarian partners on the provision of humanitarian assistance to people displaced and affected by the fighting.
