The Government of Pakistan declared 2016 “The year of returns”, and significant progress was made in ensuring the safe and dignified return of some 700,000 people during the year.
Following the decrease in returns during the winter season all IDPs are expected to return in 2017.
Although IDPs will continue to require humanitarian support, the focus of activities will shift to the return areas, where the social and physical infrastructure has been heavily damaged due to prolonged displacement and insecurity. This support will be cruciall to ensuring sustainable returns.
